This was our second food encounter at The George Inn, Molash, near Canterbury once again I’m happy to report they did not disappoint.
It’s a family affair with the proprietor, wife and mother, Karen Marshall in front of house running the family’s friendly and welcoming traditional British pub in the beautiful Kent countryside. Husband and father, John shares head chef duties with daughter, Charlotte and fellow culinary guru, Tim.
Everything that comes out the doors of the kitchen is created from fresh, locally sourced produce and everything is made on the premises, proving that this team of foodies believe in offering only the best home cooked food to their loyal customers as well as those passing through.
Surrounded by countryside this really is a fabulous location to stop for lunch, or dinner any day of the week, and in the sunshine, the garden is the perfect place in which to relax and kick-back for an hour or two.
The Sunday lunch menu offers a handful of tasty looking appetisers of which we chose the Chef’s Pâté with homemade Chutney and Crusty Toasted Bread, and a dish of juicy crayfish tails with fresh greens. We couldn’t fault the tasty pâté that we piled atop the fresh and crusty toast. The amazing homemade chutney was the perfect accompaniment to bring out the flavour.
Sunday Roast
The Sunday lunch main course menu is stuffed full of a variety of meat and seafood dishes as well as a few vegetarian options. As we perused the menu, of course, the Sunday Roast selection jumped out at us, Prime Roast Beef (mmm), Roast Loin of Pork (yum), Roast Breast of Chicken (mouth-watering, Slow Cooked Stuffed Shoulder of Lamb (taste-bud tingling)… my mouth is watering at the very thought of all this yumminess! Our choice today was Prime Roast Beef and Roast Loin of Pork.
Wonderfully thick slices of tender, lean and slightly pink Roast Beef adorn one plate, whilst juicy Pork Loin with crispy crackling is spread upon another. Yorkshire puddings are crunchy and soft in all the right places, Roasted potatoes are crunchy and fluffy, just like we like ‘em! Veggies are cooked beautifully still with that healthy crunch to them (thus I don’t feel so guilty for the rest of the deliciousness on the plate). Homemade apple sauce is flavorful and an excellent partner for the Pork, and our pet peeve, the Horseradish, it has to be said is one of the best we’ve enjoyed anywhere, so a huge thumbs up from this pair of Sunday Roast lovers!
Karen is an attentive and friendly host who clearly enjoys her domain, and her staff are a credit to her with everyone making you feel very welcome, no doubt in the hopes that you’ll enjoy their wonderful country restaurant and pub – which you most definitely will! Next time you’re in the neighbourhood we highly recommend you stop by the enjoy some of the fabulous culinary creations so lovingly prepared by John, Charlotte and Tim, as well as to savour the fresh country air and miles and miles of stunning farmland that is Kent, the Garden of England.
