This afternoon I attended the Langtry Manor Hotel end of Summer BBQ for their Diner Club. A small polite affair that reminded me of one of those Southern USA types of barbeques – the kind where you get Colonel Sanders walking around sipping Mint Juleps. No, I’m just kidding this is Bournemouth after all and although not at all that different from the good ol’ South especially when it comes to old-fashioned hospitality.
In my opinion, something that is missing in restaurants, bars and hotels are plain old polite friendliness. The kind of place you go and they treat you like an old friend. A lot of places have turned into cold generic ‘get em in and out of the door type places’ I don’t like them and find these places to be miserable establishments to eat and relax.
The BBQ food was excellent and the Langtry Manor served up chicken, pork and roasted vegetable kebabs all had a fresh taste and the meat was juicy. I really have no unfavourable comments to make about the Langtry BBQ , and while not my favourite place to eat in Bournemouth, it does, however, make for a good day out I have stayed at the Langtry Manor and it’s one of the few luxury hotels in Bournemouth (as of 2005) that go all out for personal service. I will write about this another time.
At the end of the afternoon strawberries and cream were served and my friend could not help herself and went for two portions. I could hardly blame her they were absolutely delicious. We polished off the strawberries with a couple of glasses of Pimms and lemonade with a twist of mint and lime.
Though it’s not South Carolina or Kentucky, Bournemouth being in the South of England makes for a close second when it comes to Barbecues.
