Recently I received a 36oz can of Café Bustelo to try. The last time I had tried Cafe Bustelo was on a visit to the USA several years ago. I can’t say it was one of my favourite tasting coffees. Nevertheless, I was eager to give it another try in the comfort of my own home.
I prepared the coffee in my preferred way using a glass cafetiere (Café Bustelo grounds are fine enough to use this method) stirring and let it sit for a few minutes. The coffee produced a nice medium dark looking cup.
This time, the coffee tasted much better, however, it brought back the memory of initial taste giving a muddy earthy bitter taste. While it’s not unpleasant I feel there are much better coffees on the market.
Café Bustelo is not an acquired taste it’s more of a lifestyle and a trip down memory lane for many of its fans. It’s a dense muddy taste with a medium aroma. For those that want to try an original style Cuban espresso then you will appreciate this coffee.
